Anybody on here have an IH 475 disk? Are they good for cutting up corn stalks or too light? I'm looking at a 16 footer in decent shape.
Also eyeing up a Bush Hog disk, don't know the model # but it is 80's vintage 16 foot. Don't know much about those either. Thanks.

Parts are scarce for the Bush Hog. A good, heavy-built unit but, they had their own bearing holders on the gangs that you cant find anymore. If the bearings are still good, then it might be O.K.
On any disc, depends on the type of blade and the spacing. Edited by steelwheelAcjim - 13 Feb 2019 at 7:32pm |

A friend had a Brush hog disk, not built heavy enough for him. Got an IH disk to replace it and is happy with it.

I have heard to stay away from bush hog but have no experience myself.
I do have a 13’ 470 with 2000# of weight. It cuts 6” deep and is well built. A 475 I believe is the same thing with hydraulic fold gangs. I imagine it would be good as well. Also have a 21’ 490 and an 18’ 496. They are all well built and do an excellent job. |

the IH works good if you keep the scrapers rubbing ; working good an tite so the stalks don't get hung up in them cleaners. so it don't block up;;

Thanks guys. I was a little leery of the Bush Hog because of parts availability. I think I'll rule that one out. IH tillage equipment seems to have a good reputation.

If you can find them, Taylor-way construction discs are great, too!

For what it's worth my dad has a 14.5 foot Bush Hog offset that he has owned as long as I can remember. I can't remember a time that he had to do much work to it. For many years he didn't do any rowcrop but when we needed it we
just hooked on, aired up the tires and used it. It never let us down. Just my experience with a Bush Hog, take it as you will. Later, Brad |
