New to me HD11EP steer problems

   Good day everyone!	I am new to this forum and new to the dozer world, i had a chance earlier this month to purchase a Allis Chalmers HD11EP serial# 13774. i bought it from an older man in his early 80's who completely rebuild the unit and worked with it before he finally decided to retire. he figured it sat for about 10- 15 years since the last time its done an serious work, and at the end of it he was having an issue with the right side steering when it was running up to temperature/hot 

	i finally got it home today and never had any real time to tinker with it but just wondering things i can look into as now i seem to lost all my steering both sides. i can feel my breaks engaging holding it back but still cant get the steering clutches to release. i plan on changing all the fluids and filters on the dozer but just wondering if theirs anything else i should look into first .  he is still on the search for his service manual all's i have to go by is the parts manual.

	Welcome to the wonderful world of AC. Your getting a little out of things I have been in,as EP is the power shift I think. So your steering clutches may run in oil,being a next generation newer. But the old dry steering clutches are known to stick and not slip if left to sit to long. Condensation helps them rust and may even happen in clutches that run in oil if they sit to long and are not all the way covered in oil. I live in a much dryer part of the world than you and had a brake lining rust to a drum in less than a year. Many people talk of getting clutches to free up with us (and abuse in my option) but I have never had that work. So others that run and fix on your model are here,and can give better advise than I. Good luck on this, as luck can save much abuse of your knuckles.

	You could check the filter streaner and the small pump near the injection pump

	HD11EP, will it be as my 7G with power brakes and a separate pump for operating the hydraulic clutches? Sounds eerily similar to when my steering pump just quit.

	If the E is same as EP, it does have a pump on the timing cover. Went to Minnpar parts books page 146 on the HD11E. Pump and filter layout is there. The reason I say this is the typical Allis arrangement has the pumps ABOVE the oil level, any cracked, sucking air hose a stopped up filter or a chance the level is too low will cause this and will if continue to try it burn the pump up. 	Thank you guys for the quick response! There is definitely many things I gotta look into! I do Know the transmission oil level is up, and the oil seems to be OK ( no burnt smell, good red colour) I did find the pump break down in my parts manual, I gotta replace a oil line tonight or tomorrow, then I will start working my self backwards from the pump. I also got talking to an older mechanic and he suggested a faulty o ring in the steering control box?? I will keep you guys updated Thanks again Zack

	So I had to get a couple hoses replaced for the gauges on the dash and I decided to just check and see what kind of shape the filters and strainers were in, and well that was a mistake.. missing the return filter and clogged strainer.... I can see the other operator didn't like maintenance! So now I'm wondering if anyone has the strainer and filter generic part numbers as there is no dealers locally and my parts manual only gives me Factory replacement kits. Let the fun begin! *i did take pictures but it would not allow me to upload tonight.. problem with slow internet
