Lots of tire talk on this forum but I cant seem to find exactly what Im looking for.

What is the widest tire that will fit on an 8" Model B rear rim? 9.5-24?

My brother has 11.2-24 tires on his B and they work fine, don't look really rolled out or anything. When I put my B together it had an old set of 13-24 Firestone connected tread tires which I guess today would be close to a 14.9-24 size. I took them off because the side wall rotted and ripped and it sat way high in the back and they were pretty round from being squeezed by the rim. So the biggest that will physically fit; at least a 14.9-24. Biggest I would recommend for a good fit and traction; 11.2-24. Mine now has 9.5-24 which are fine but they don't bite as good as the 11.2's on my brothers and his will obviously go a bit faster.

Anyone have a picture of a set of 11.2's on a B? Also CPG, i assume those are on 8" rims? I beleive the Bs came in 8,9, and 10" rims. Need to verify they will fit my 8's

I guess I never measured which it had, never really paid attention to them having different width rims, I thought there was only one width on the B's. I can probably find a pic of it but I don't know the rim width. I can measure my rims and show you what a 9.5 looks like on that rim.

In the days when the Bs were new tire widths were the rim widths and the tire widest part was wider. In the 50s tire designations changed to the width being the widest width of the tire wider than the rim widths. There are some comparisons on the Miller Tire web site.

Titan/Goodyear and other tire makers offer an Ag Tire handbook, on line, used to be on paper and towards the back it shows the approved rims for each tire size. Generally there is a preferred rim and a couple different from the preferred rim but acceptable.

Last I checked, google Goodyear Ag Tire Handbook, and it will come up.

The goodyear catalog only states "recommended width," which basically states 10" rim = 11.2-24 and a 8" = 9.5-24. I will most likely go with a 9.5-24 but would still like to know if anyone has tried to go wider on an 8" rim.

Search for the table "Approved Rim Contours" it shows three or four rims for most bias ply tractor drive tires. The basic tire data shows only the recommended rim. The Approve Rims table shows a column for recommended rims and another column of approved rims.

If you patiently search "recommended" you will eventually turn up a few paragraphs on the effects of mismatching rim widths and tire widths.

Titan bought Goodyear four or five years ago. Titan bought another ag tire maker decades ago.
