Does anyone know of a source for grousers for a H3 dozer? Has anyone used the weld on grouser bars?

I welded on 5/8" rebar (weldable type not regular rebar) and that worked out really good. It was not on my H3 mind you but my other track loader. The undercarriage shop kind of ridiculed my idea and said it wouldn't last...10 years later they were still really good.

On a loader the rebar works great - been on my HD5G for 20 + years . HD4 loader I had I did the same to as well as a D6 9U I had - For my FD5 I will buy grouser bar - weld on type to get extra height . Several styles of bar are out there - do web search . Single bar on doser is all you need but on loader 2 or 3 are needed so turning does not put extra strain on track .

I totally agree, when I put in my first response on this thread I should have also said that on a blade machine you need the tall grouser bars. The ready to weld bars are very good with the bevels in place. Another time you don't want rebar is if you are truly restoring a machine...it just doesn't give you the right appearance.

On my HD5G I welded 2 bars onto the pads leaving the center space open - has worked ok On a machine I sold I gave guy the rebar I had cut - next time I seen him he had only 1 bar on each pad on center of pad ..

had a hd-5 that i welded 15/16 grouser bars on. used it to log so once in a while i would get up on a rock and just pound the heck out of them. never broke one off. welded them on with 7018 rod.

When welding them on the HD5G, I used 7024 drag rod after doing a tack weld with 6011.
I set bars in place at front and rear of track so I was doing a horizontal weld onto bars - this way a high deposit without worrying about controlling bead height.
I also used rebar on the HD4G tracks as well as HD5B dozer track but used 7018-AC rod- On my D6 9U when I welded rebar onto those pads I used 70E wire feed as I had moved up in welders.

welded grouser bars on a d6h. precut and beveled. the only thing we should have done was bend the ends slightly. with the bars straight, it would tear up everything when turning especially blacktop and concrete when in the shop. if you look at a new pad they are not as high on the outside edges.

HD5B, HD5G, (2) FARMALL A's, CUB. DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, IGNORE THE LAUGHTER. FLANNEL IS ALWAYS IN STYLE.

when I welded the grousers on my 5 a fellow told me to cut the corners off at about a 45 degree angle. worked fine. Leon

Got mine from for my FL7 about 5 years ago. Came in 10 foot lengths, already beveled and I just cut to length. Angle gut the ends and welded on with 7018 rod. Have never lost a one. Real reasonable on cost. S Cohn & Son Co Inc in Washington
