So, the basic question is whether I can figure out which front engine seal I need before I tear into the job so I have have everything ready when I begin. If the only way to get the right seal is to take the old one out and measure it, fine, but now I'm going down the engine number rabbit hole.
I understand that there are different front crank seals depending upon engine number. My engine number is CE 151xxx with a serial number of 116xxx. There seems to be a slight inconsistency in that some sources say that a 151xxx engine number is 1950 while all sources say the serial is 1951....frankly, I don't care about originality, but here is where I looked. Anyhoo, when I look up the front crank seal, one place says that the 1.942" front seal fits between engine numbers 161090 and 177729 and the 2.004" front seal starts at engine number 177730. I have been unable to find a front crank seal that corresponds with the 151xxx engine number. Any ideas? Like I said at the beginning, I can always wait until I take it apart, but I want everything on hand if possible. Thanks. Oh, as an aside, as I was going down the engine number rabbit hole, I ran across the casting number discussion. Mine, as AM-2916 38...isn't on any list I've found.
