Had some troubles with my D-15 while I was mowing with my 6 foot finish mower. About after an hour mowing tractor would die and not fire/start. At first I thought it was gas related. I would pull carb off, flush it out , put it back together and it would run for another hour and die again . Then figured out if I let it sit for 30 to 40 minutes after it died it would start back up and run for about an hour. Replaced coil, points / condenser, cap , rotor. Echlin brand from Napa . Don Bradley, Steve from NJ always preached about using good parts . Well went to start and no fire . Pulled a plug and no fire. Scratched my head , messed with it for a while . Now it would at least run for an hour before I touched it. What did I do to it . God bless Don Bradley, if he was alive I would have been bending his ear big time. Hate to bug anyone and figured I could figure it out. Had power to coil , from coil to distributor. Through points ,,, what the hell is going on . A good friend of mine who is pretty sharp with motors came out and looked at it today . He Scratched his head as it is positive ground and he had never messed with that before, after an hour or so he asked if I had any new plugs. I went in my garage and sure enough I had a set of Autolites. We put one in plug wire number one , held it against the block and turned the motor over and we had good spark . Changed the champions out that had been in there forever with new Autolites. Turned the gas on and she fired right up . Actually never sounded smoother. Could believe I couldn't get a spark out of the 4 plugs . My friend believed that I had a bad coil was my original problem. Not sure why the old plugs didn't like the new parts . At least it's running .

Hang on to your old condensor, it is frequently that, that is the weak link.  If trouble starts again, swap the old one back in, for a test...Wink

At the very end you mentioned you had Champion plugs, THROW them away and get some quality plugs like NGK or BOSH. I have some NGK plugs that have been in for nearly 20 years and they are still doing the job fine. I also have electronic ignition conversions in anything with spark ignition. I don't care what box todays ignition parts com in there are very few places actually making those parts and most of them are in 3rd world countries with poor quality control.
As Dave said; older working condensers are probably better than anything new you can by today.

At one time we got Champions 10 to a box and you could bet on at least 2 dead plugs new in the box, but which 2?

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

I agree toss the champions but those wont cause a no-spark problem.   My first start would be look at the point.  You said they had power to them, but are they opening enough to break power long enough?
I like to simplify.  Pull coil wire off the distributor and put it near a ground.  With ignition on, manually open and close the points.  If it works, problem is after the wire.  if not, it's before, or in the points connection.  usually, a condenser will cause poor running but still spark.
