This is a CASE 530 under an 8 ft awning... I disconnect the front axle / tires/ etc and rolled forward a foot toward the bucket.. Pulled the motor and dropped it out the bottom.. just plenty or cribbing under the loader frame and transmission area.

normally you roll the motor forward with the tires... I did a Backhoe tractor a few years ago... Transmission , rear end, tires, backhoe dont move. Block that solid..... I set bucket on the ground and blocked under the loader frame so it was stationary.. removed the radiator and everything around it... pulled the motor forward 3 inches and lifted out of the loader frame... but you would need a lift of some sort ..... have also seen pull the motor forward and drop to the ground and drag out from under the loader frame.. if you have room.

Whatever is left of it still has to be removed so that's where your focus should be.

Why don't you get your old piston and sleeve removed FIRST and then you'll KNOW what you need.

if it came out of a D12 or other small ALLIS... it has a groove... If there is no groove then i came out of other manufacturer and is probably a dry sleeve and wrong piston.

Almost all AC tractor engines have wet sleeves.
On a wet sleeve engine, the only seal around the sleeves, between the cooling system (antifreeze) and the lubrication system (engine oil) are the O rings. When the O rings leak, usually caused by deterioration of the O rings with age or overheating the engine, antifreeze mixes with the engine oil. If you continue running the engine with contaminated oil, the contaminated oil loses it's ability to properly lubricate the bearings (which is where the most friction is inside the engine) and the bearings fail (very quickly). The result is a catastrophic engine failure. If the sleeve you have doesn't have grooves for the O rings, it is not the right sleeve for a D12 and should not be used. |

It should have at least two grooves for O rings.

hunter... just for reference , here is a drawing of a "wet sleeve"... you can see the sleeve pilots into the block at the top, and seals with an o-ring at the bottom ... If you MOVE the sleeve up 1/2 inch, it pops free..

all of the small Allis engines are wet sleeve... You are going to have problems jacking the sleeve out from the bottom, etc, with the crank in the way.. You should be able to pull from the top with a puller. Sleeve only needs to move up about 1/2 inch and then it will lift out easier..
In the end, i would pull the motor and lift the crank out.. Sounds like a lot of work, but you will learn a LOT OF INFO for future jobs... A couple of extra weeks now "in the shop" will be good in the long run.

I'm not sure if the sleeve I have is a wet sleeve or not. How do I tell.
If the replacement is not a wet sleeve I will need a new sleeve and Piston again |

you will probley have jack up one side of the front axle to get the pan out or remove the front axle to get the pan off then you can in frame it but you need to mesure the crank journals you may have to pull it any ways to have crank work done
