After waiting on my machine shop to get my motor back to me for 3 1/2 months, my recollection of the routing for the PS lines has waned. According to the shop manual I have the front and rear Control Valve Assembly lines in the correct holes. However, when I route the rear line through the hole in the right front motor mount the connection doesn’t line up and is too far to the rear of the Steering Ram
I have photos but so far have not been able to upload them as they are too large. My memory says the splicer hose of the Suction Oil Line was routed through the large hole in the front motor mount.Is this correct? If it is would someone please provide a photo of the correct routing of the rear CVA line to the Steering Ram? |

I appreciate it Phil but it’s the lower line I’m having trouble with. It’s the one with the reverse goose neck connection into the slave cylinder behind the right hand rail and below the the generator. Alternator in your case.

Which manual are you using? I have an Allis manual with a photo but there is a caption covering the area where the line passes through the support

I looked at my D19. It's hard to see much though. The suction hose dose run through the upper hole in the engine mount. I cannot see the the connection to the valve of the ram lines

Thanks again! I found the diagram of the lines in an old I&T Manual. If I interpret it correctly, the short Control Valve to ram (front) tube connects to the front hole in the Steering Control Valve and the long Control Valve to ram (rear) connects to the rear hole in the SCV. ??
However, the long line is 1 1/2” behind the ram connection. Is this routing or orientation (twist) issue? I also questioned if I mounted the SCV wrong but don’t know that this is possible and the pump to control valve line seems to mount well. |

If the lines from the valve to the ram are switched, you will find out real fast when you turn the steering wheel.

Well, I got it figured out with the advise of a local former AC mechanic. Here are the key points.
1. Although all but the line I was having problems with can be installed with the booster bolted up to the tractor, the short line is most easily connected with the front end removed. 2. To realize success with the offending line; a. The front end must be slid forward 3-4” and; b. The line routed through the further most right hand hole in the right front motor mount. This a small hole as apposed to the larger, center hole. You’ll need a bit of patience to work the fitting through the hole and direct the line towards the left rear of the holster. c. It still isn’t necessarily straight forward routing due to the multiple bends in the line you must turn and twist to reach the connection but it can be done. c. The rest of the lines can be fairly easily attached once the front end is bolted up to the frame. d. Even though I found photos in two shop manuals showing the largest line with the rubber splicer hose mounted above the front, right hand motor mount behind the generator, my recollection of my hose being routed through the large, center hole seemed to be confirmed. That’s the way it wanted to fit and that’s where it is! |
