How hot does a d19 diesel run at for temperature? Got the head off and looked in where the thermostat is a suppose to be And there wasn’t any in there, so trying to figure out how hot to go with.

Got the timing cover off by Loosening the frame rail and it came right off. Got the head on and the manifolds. Now just waiting on parts.

Thermostat missing ?? probably because the engine runs hot under load due to a WD45 sized radiator...……...

Had it running before I tore it apart and driving up a road it would get to about 180 degrees on a 93 degree day.

Not completely sure but 30 years ago is when my cousin use to use it and he said it never got to hot but that was 30 some years ago.

What are you attempting to do ?? I suppose a tank could be mounted outside the frame and the bottom of it plumbed to the torque tube drain plug. It would have to have a good breather on the top of it to let oil go in and out.

It won't make the hydraulics work any better.

Isn’t it a high pressure lower volume? Thought if I could add more hydraulic oil to the system it could pick up things that take more oil.

yes that is true.  but as even Dr Allis has stated before,  the D19 Hyd system is pretty lackluster.

to add to the comment earlier about compression, yes the 19 was different than the 17 at least on the early engines.  the early pistons had valve recess for intake valves and later they went to flat piston and changed head and camshaft.  I am putting a 19 together right now with parts from Norm we got about 3 years ago.  early head and cam.  new pistons are flat but exact same height, so we had a valve relief machined in to match old pistons instead of changing head and cam.  I discussed this with Don(MO) before he passed so hoping to be good to go.  we also bought arp head studs and fire rings from Mack.  the agco fire rings are a steel gasket material sandwich.

It is a wd45 hydraulic system. I got a d17 head gasket and it worked
perfectly, it runs just so nicely.

If you hang a tank on the outside of the right frame rail and have the bottom of it level with the bottom of the torque tube sump and run a hose as large as possible between bottom drain plugs of both and have a good breather on the tank, it would work.

It now has a slight miss to it. Don’t think it’s air in the lines cause I cracked injector lines open and closed them (it would be like a gasers distributor cap being not quite lined up)

On your cooling system, if you added a Thermostat in the system, you can slow the coolant down so the Radiator has a chance to do its job and cool much better. With the Thermostat out, hot coolant from the engine comes out quickly, rolls through the Radiator quickly not giving the Radiator a chance to cool things down before it re-enters the engine. The radiator is a heat exchanger. Hot coming out and hot going back in doesn't make cool. The higher the Thermostat, the slower you move the coolant which gives the Radiator more time to cool things down a bit. Especially when its working in the field....

Ok thanks Steve!!! Now the traction booster leaks and I got all the        o-rings for it but not sure how to get it off to put them in. Now this probably sounds like dumb question but I haven’t worked to much on these older Allis. The picture isn’t of mine but it is the same setup.

Got a mower for it, an Allis Chalmers 160 rotary mower although it blew a tire on the way home and has barbwire wrapped around the blade.

Have to put new seals in it but it shouldn’t be that bad to do.
The barb wire tore the seal up so another good project to get done.
