Dave, Folks,
Thanks. This type of work reminds me of when I was a kid. We cut a lot of wood and did a lot of outside chores. Not as much now since we moved off the farm. I have several projects to complete at the local tractor show grounds this spring if I run out of things to do around the house.
Regards,
 Chris

Enjoyed your planing and milling pics, Chris. You and Matt were just having way too much fun! I've got a "portable" bandsaw mill - feels like it's time to get it running again.

Yea supposed to be spring! I was about frozen when I got home. Still snowing like crazy! Thanks Shameless!
I think the Steam Show may have two of these planers? I like the hemlock material. Make you almost want to build a building with it.

 Chris

Folks,
Had to get out and do something. I asked Matt if he would help plane some lumber. Turns out I was the helper!
He brought his D14 and had it belted to the planer in a matter of minutes. He also knew all the moves to make to get this running smoothly. A couple belt changes, some belt dressing, a few adjustments and we were making chips!

So we planed some hemlock and then finished a stack of blue spruce that may be used as batten boards. Not my favorite wood to work with, very fuzzy!

Regards,
 Chris

I put a 3 of kit on my D15, and had the same problem. Found a shorter top link online, about 13" minimum length. That seems to have resolved the problem with my " selfunloading" 3pt carryall.

Rick, Tony, Ross,
Thanks for the comments! Yes we may have two issues the actual 3 point lower arms may not be out past the tractor far enough. And we may have the top link pivot too high. Well it was a farmer fix and not a lot of dimensions or specs were reviewed during the build. Thats' what happens!

 Chris

Good morning.   Google has a lot of information on 3Pt. specifications. Note the position of this 3rd point.    Ross.

I think your 3point problem mite have something to do with how the top link is mounted. Looks like it's too high. Add some plates with holes drilled to the back so you can install the top link lower.
After looking at the pic with the saw rig on, I'm fairly certain it's the top link mount that's the problem. The top link should be pretty much at the same angle as the arms when hooked up. Otherwise as you found out, the implement will "tip" as you move the arms up or down.

Looks like left rear tire is either Firestone traction champion or BF Goodrich power grip? If and when your "Buddy" changes to combine tires, what would be chance of dealing for left rear if it is a BF Goodrich power grip ? Looking for a mate to one on my D-14! Thanks, M. Roush

Dave,
Maybe that is the problem. I told him we should bolt the cross bar on the drawbar. Will have to look at a little more. We did not have any numbers on where the lower arms should have been. Matt said it worked fine for his back blade and brush hog.
Anyway it was a good event for a old man to help a young man. He buzzed wood with it last night using the 9N and said it worked good.

Folks,
Matt came over today with the D14 to borrow my buzz rig to cut slabs. Well it did not go as planned!

When we had the top link in place the buzz rig tipped way back.

We had to use a short chain to get the buzz rig high enough that he could load it.

Luckily he has another 20 tractors to choose from so he mounted it on a 9N and it worked fine. PTO was too short too?  Not sure what is going on with the geometry of the new 3 point we put on the D14??

Regards,
 Chris

Guys,
I will let him know that you approve of his tractor hoarding!
I think with less young guys that are interested in tractors, they will have to step up like Matt and just have way more than normal. Wait, whats normal?:)

Matt... Nice find! I just found a stuck in the woods D17 Series IV. That puts my total at sixteen tractors, not counting the off color ones. Don't let anyone tell you twenty is too many. LOL

Almost hard to believe this is a "fence row find". Thanks so much for saving her, we need all the A-C's we can get since they stopped making them. Keeping her running is the best thing to do. Thanks again!

Rails do not look like the eccentrics were run loose as the rails will show "flattening" of the metal. Have removed eccentrics that were worn paper thin and one old D15 I picked up had rails worn beyond use on both rims as ran far too long allowed to move.
A clunking sound is usually a dead giveaway on worn eccentric inserts but finals low on fluid will cause the same clunking sound.

If memory serves , I think it was 21mm and 25/32 I was looking for . Was hoping to buy one locally and if it didn't fit return it . Of course I can get them online . No big deal , I just wanted to remove them for some paint . Thanks
