I have a D17 Series 1 with leaky front and rear oil seals. Do I have to pull the engine to change them

 My opinion would be, Yes, Its the right way to do this job correctly. You will need to do a couple other things while your in there too! At least that's how it works for most of us.

You have to pull rear main cap to replace seal if you do it right. Don't leave the F gaskets out when going back together....

It has been my experience that on an old Pre-full flow oil filter D-17 gas engine, when they are leaking at the rear and front seals, 50% of the time they need the crankshaft reground undersized and new main bearings to tighten things up.
