Hi Fellers!

Hey... I know there were variations between differential ring/pinion ratios for WC, RC, and WD/45/D17...

But what about the final drives... anybody have a list of the WC, RC, and WD/45/17 final drive pinion and bull gears?

I have the shop manual for the WC in several large pieces, might include the gear ratio details in my on line directory:

Not that I could find, Gerald... they have photos and disassembly, but no tooth counts... most likely, the technical writers assumed that it wasn't necessary to count all the teeth to determine wether they were all present... LOL

The Final drive tooth count on the D17, in my service manual is, 15 x 82. Effective with S/N 42001 and up, it is 14 x 76.

Thanks Frank-  so...

WC after 42001, of 76/14 = 5.43:1 ratio.  The differential being 3.6:1 makes the composite drive ratio 5.43*3.6 = 19.55 pinion rotations to 1 tire rotation.

And for the D17 is 82/15 = 5.47:1 ratio...  if the R&P was 9/35 = 3.89, that makes 5.47*3.89= 21.27 pinion rotations to 1 tire rotation.

Does this all sound correct?

Now, this means there's no substantial reduction difference between the  final reduction drives of the WC or the WD/45/D17....

Dave,
I don't have any info on the WC. My info is for the D17, only.

But, I believe that the WD45, had the same final drives (at least the later ones) as the S I D17. I'm pretty sure the S/N 42001, D17 will be a S II.

RC and WC final drives are 17T x 68T for a 4.0 to 1 ratio.  Ring and pinion for RC (and high wheeled WC's) was 6.6 to 1.  Regular WC's were 4.7 to 1.     All WD's,WD45's and D-17's prior to Series 3 finals were 15T x 82T for 5.47 to 1.   Ring and pinion for all straight stick WD's ( 12T x 43T) was 3.6 to 1.  Ring and pinion for late WD and all WD-45 gas tractors (13T x 43T) was 3.3 to 1.  WD-45 diesels and all D-17's were (9T x 35T) 3.9 to 1 ring and pinions.  Final drives on D-17 series 3 and newer and 170's were (14T x 76T) 5.43 to 1.
