 Topic: D15 Series II Clutch

I’m putting a new clutch in my d-15. There were some “shims” 5/16 washers between the pressure plate and flywheel. I talked to my local AC dealer and he said if they were in there put them back. Now I have the new clutch in with the shims but have no space between the throwout bearing and fingers on the pressure plate. The clutch rod is in hooked from the pedal and still no space. Does anyone know if there are suppose to be shims between the flywheel and pressure plate on these or did someone before me make a mistake. I do believe the clutch I took out was not the original since the clutch disc had a rebuilt sticker on it.

No shims used. Remove them and the fingers will move away from the throw out brg.

Trust the doc !! NO shims..... Also, make sure the throwout lever arm is BEHIND( tranny side) of that cast 'nub' on the left side ! if you put it on the engine side, well....... you were warned.....BTDT,oopsy...

Ok thanks. That’s kinda what we figured with the shims. Will take them out tomorrow. We do have the lever arm behind the cast nub.

I need some more help. I removed the shims and now the throw out bearing barely touches the fingers when I push the pedal in. The clutch pedal rod is hitting on that cast "nub" on the left side of the tranny. So I either need to grind that nub down or add one of the shims back in. There we're two washers in there for shims so hopefully one of them would do the trick but it just doesn't seem right to have to add a washer. What am I missing here?

Adjust each setscrew on each finger to move the fingers back a little bit.

Like the guys said, doesn't need spacers.If this is new clutch and pressure plate they are wrong. The clutch disc is probably too thick causing the fingers to be to low. A thicker than normal pressure plate will cause this also. I suggest you get Rick Corder to fix your clutch. The original disc was very thin, the fingers would stand up and work at suggested height. With a thicker disc and not machining the pressure plate to allow for this, fingers will be too low. If fingers adjusted up in this condition ,you want have proper travel or pressure on clutch disc. Rick can get you fixed up. JMHO, Tracy
