    Posted: 15 May 2012 at 9:33pm
Okay, here's a very basic question from a new member, me.  I have a D19 from 1960. It runs great and I only use it to pull a 6 foot brush hog and mow my 3 acre field.  I have to change the oil. Can you recommend the best place to get an oil filter?  I would also love to change the air filter. Is that available from reliable retailers?  Thanks in advance for good information. I appreciate it.

First place would be any AGCO dealership, even if they were never an Allis-Chalmers dealer. Second place, I guess would be a NAPA store, who I know can get what you want. Beyond that, you're on your own.

Thanks for the response. I usually go to the Napa store, so I'm glad to hear others have had success there too. I also go to Tractor Supply Co.  Recently, however, I bought a new sediment bowl from them for my D19 (gasser) and the darn thing leaked all over the place (had to tweak the nut a bit but still drips very slowly). I think a good post topic on here would be a parts section for news and notes from people trying to find the most reliable parts. I could share some anecdotes.

NAPA is what I use for air filters and I also run their NAPA GOLD filters on all of my
A-C's, mostly D Series and a 190XTIII. Be sure the seal area on your fuel bowl assy. does not have any old gasket residue, check the bowl for chips and I soak my new cork gasket in a cup of gas for an hour before installing on my gas units. With everything clean and lined up properly, the nut on the bail should not have to be tightened with pliers.
NAPA can be beat, sometimes drastically, on oils, Marvel Mystery Oil and shop penetrants and I pick up those at Wal-Mart as usually 30-50% cheaper than NAPA or TSC on good name brand lubricants.
TSC is fair on Universal Trans/Hyd fluid and I have talked to the local Wal-Mart manager to see if he can supply the Mystic and Traveller brands; Wally World is stocking more name brand lubricants all the time, selling them cheaper than most because of their bulk purchasing power.
Just make sure the Universal Trans/Hyd fluid is labelled compatible with Allis Chalmers 821 Fluid.

One suggestion when adding the engine oil - pour slowly! At least on my D19, you can't pour it in like your car or truck, it comes back at you. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the info. I bought Napa oil today before I read these comments. The helpful attendant said Napa uses Valvoline oil but puts their own label on it.
