My brother has a 1971 A/C 615 with the Perkins diesel. When he tried to start it this morning, got a lot of smoke and a few flames from the starter. His rebuilder does not know if it can be repaired. We looked at several different sites, and can not find a replacement starter. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We can probably rebuild it. If its not rebuildable, I'm sure I could come up with a replacement. What brand Starter motor? Drop me a PM if interested... Steve@B&B

Are you sure that your machine isn't a 715 not a 615. 615 diesels were the 200 cu.in A-C engine and the 715 had the 236 Perkins. Should be a standard starter. I buy my Perkins related items from my local Massey Ferguson dealer.

1. The numbers/name he gave is either a "Delco" which sends you to Lester 4512. 2. It might be a 715, as he could not fine the Perkins 'tag' on the block around the injector pump. It just might be a Allis engine. Thanks for the quick replies. I'll make sure my brother reads all. Art

the 4512 sounds like the one for a 615 with the allis engine as I needed one for my 615 does the starter go in under the tank . anyway you can find them but hold on to your hat, I looked for a month or better and found the only one in the country that didnt require a good core or a fortune for a core and still had to pay close to 300 bucks but it was rebuilt most are in the 600 range as this starter was inly used in 4 applications and all had to be a diesel so not really all that many around
