Hello,
Does any one know what kind of oil should be placed in the rear end of a 1980 AC GT811?
I have had it a couple years (hand me down from my father-original owner), and I would like to service the rear-end.  I am guessing it is some sort of 90 weight?  Cant find a thing on the internet pertaining to my question.  Dad does not recall, but thought it was 90 weight.  He no longer has the manuals, of course.
Any help would be great!

You are correct in that it should use some kind of gear lube like 90W. I have even used some 85W-140 in some of mine and it seems to work well also actually quieting down a couple of my older gear trains.

Ok, that is what I thought.  I have several gallons of the 90 weight for my trucks, so I will just use it.

I need to think about re-powering that tractor too, any suggestions?  I thought I would just get a 20hp Briggs (about $450 at Northern Tool-minus the muffler and the tank, etc)

Any vertical shaft engine ought to work. I don't know about jumping from 11 hp to 20 hp though. I myself would be concerned about the transaxle being able to handle that. 20 hp is more for hydrostatic trans since they take so much power just to run. The old gear shifts like yours don't require as much power to move them.

Good point, and I did kind of wonder about that as well.  Thank you for the advice!!
