was reading the manual on taking out the steering clutch on my allis 4, read what randall said on the 653 and also talked to him on the phone. He surely makes it sounds easy but it doesn't look the clutch assembly will come up and out unless the shaft the brake pivot on comes out first. If so do you just drive it out. Looks like I would have to drive it from the outside to the inside due to frame work on outside. all help appreciated. norm

THE SECOND THING I LISTED WAS TO TAKE THE PIN OUT AND MOVE THE SHAFT TOWARD THE MIDDLE TO LOOSEN THE BRAKE BAND COMPLETELY. THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO MOVE THE BAND TOWARD THE OUTER OR FAR LEFT SIDE OF THE LEFT FINAL DRIVE IN ORDER TO GIVE YOU SOME EXTRA ROOM IN ORDER TO FIND THE KEEPER CLIP AND LIFT IT UP TO RELEASE THE AXLE. REMOVE THE TWO SPRINGS IN FRONT OF THE FINAL HOUSING, ONE HAS A ROD THROUGH IT , AND THEN REMOVE THE SIX BOLTS THAT HOLD THE CLUTCH UNIT IN PLACE. THEN YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO LIFT THE ENTIRE CLUTCH OUT WITH THE BRAKE BAND. REMEMBER THE AXLE MUST SLIDE FLUSH WITH THE CONE END THAT IT IS HOUSE IN IN ORDER FOR THE CLEARANCE NEEDED TO REMOVE THE CLUTCHES. CALL ME AFTER 3 PM TODAY AND I WILL DISCUSS THIS OVER THE PHONE WITH YOU. RANDAL

Hello Randall. Didn't do anything today . will try some more tomorrow. I think I understand what your saying. I have a parts manual now so those diagrams will help. I did have a problem with my steering/brake levers. on side kept popping out. the bolt on the right side was missing so it kept sliding out. replaced bolt and it seemed to fix that. that may have been my problem but since ive already got the tank off im going to try to replace the clutches and brake band. There was some water in the bottom of the casing. not really a lot of rust. just good layer of dirt/grime. I think it will all clean up okay. Cant get the bottom plug out to drain it and drill a small hole in it. probably need a spanner wrench of some kind. what do you use to remove your plugs. thanks norm

TO REMOVE THE PLUG I USE AN FLAT BAR NAIL PULLER. THEY ARE AROUND 2 INCHES WIDE ON THE END AND WILL FIT THE DRUM TYPE PLUG. MY PLUGS ARE LIKE THE LARGE ONES USED IN 55 GALLON STEEL DRUMS. THE MANUAL WILL HELP YOU UNDERSTAND BETTER HOW THE PARTS FIT TOGETHER. CALL OR SEND E-MAIL QUESTIONS WHEN YOU NEED HELP. THERE ARE MANY ON THE FORUM THAT HAVE THE ANSWERS.
