1960'S I600

Hey Just getting it all fired up for the spring. Its starts and runs real nice and seems to have lots of lifting power but when I try to go up any sort of hill even a sloped driveway it really struggles and come to a stop even with full throttle and shuttle lever pressed forward. On flat ground or very small slope drives great but front and backwards. Although when driving frontward (which is backwards for the tractor) it does have a pretty go winding sound that you dont get when you drive backwards( or front wards for the tractor) any thoughts

Is that in first gear?
My I600 won't push itself very hard in 2,3 or 4 on anything but flat and level.
1st it can grade, scrape and push very well
Those with more experience will likely tell you it's the shuttle clutch.
There are shims for the pressure plates. You can move them to maintain the required tolerences but it's a pretty detailed process.
I have an OEM service manual I could take pictures from and PDF them if this helps..

That would be very helpful. I was driving in first so it must be something with the shuttle shift and your suggestion would seem to make sense because it seems to lift a load with no problem which leads me to rule out any pump issue. If you had to take a few pdf's that would be great .

We have shuttle clutches in the 615 and the HD3. Same clutch as the I600. A few years ago the HD3 would move in low only as your tractors are functioning. We split the HD-3, replaced the discs in the shuttle clutch pack and the solved the problem. It is considerably easier on a wheel tractor as there are no tracks to split and the halves will roll apart and together much easier on the tires than the sprockets rolling on the track rails.

There are two sections in the HD3 manual on the replacement and adjustment of the clutch pack. It is essentially moving the shims after the discs are replaced to get the .040 gap in the disc pack.

I will have a better look at everything once this week of rain stops. I did get a chance to pull the cover off and have a look at the clutch, and boy was the oil bad. Surprised it even drove at all, It looked exactly like chocolate milk. I have new fluid for it, any ideas on the best way to flush the system? i have never done it before. I picked the machine up right before the winter and haven't done much to it yet. My I600 is also the fork lift model, are the two reservoirs separate, because i figure I should change the fluid in that as well.

I am also looking for a manual, want to make sure i get the right vintage.
