I have torqued the head on my d-19 diesel , do i need to re-torque it after it runs? If so do i re-torque when it is still hot or after it cools? Also how long is the exhaust stack supposed to be originally?

Did you torque them correctly the first time, according to the manual? If so you shouldn't need to do it the second time. Don't ever torque bolts on a hot engine, unless the manufacture tell you to. If you have head gasket problems, your head is not straight, your top deck is not straight, or maybe your bolts have been stretched beyond yield strength and need replaced, torquing bolts more won't solve any problems, just create more. Also many, many, many torque wrenches are out of spec(get it calibrated at least once a year if used frequently, dropped or abused), and you shouldn't use a torque wrench in the bottom or top 15 percent of its range

Yes we torqued them to allis specs. the allis manual says to re-torque after it reaches operating temp. i figured it was after it cooled just wanted to double check. What abouy the stack length?

My Allis Manual said the same thing about re-torque on the gas engine (D19) when we overhauled it. I checked them after we had it on the dyno. I would say 95% of the bolts were dead on, only a few moved a little to reach required torque. My theory, if a factory repair book gives you specific instructions go by them, then you will never second-guess yourself.
