Saw a complete I600 gas for sale along the road yesterday. Has a bad swing motor. No one home, but I took a lot of pictures. One flat but good rear tires. Flotation fronts. A lotta welds. The guy used nickel rods on mild steel. Welded the steering arm to the spindle., etc. What is it worth scrap price? What is the deal with the swing motor? It looks like a pretty simple fix, depending on parts availability. Has a new starter. Foot clutch pushes down awful easy. Shuttle snaps in good front and back. Its all there. Fenders are good, lites are all on it. If I can get it for real close to scrap price I might just do it. Wish I could send some pics from this crappy phone.......

Coke: Has some good insights on the swing motor. I believe it was a Cessna product. Search on here - D15 Backhoe parts.

Cessna Swing Motor same as used on MF 50 and 54 backhoe.

Minnpar possibly for parts or have a nice machine shop in your garage?

These are old machines, scrap value for parts. Resale value thin but maybe to an AC collector a little more value.

Swing motor is what swings the hoe left and right. The for sale sign said that swing was weak, the rest strong.

Swing motor - rotary piston. Has a top seal and lower seal and a blade like protrusion from center casting (machining) which holds a sealing material.

Valved for cushion at end of swing by porting - MF dealer may have parts as well as some other mfg used this unit.

Well, its easy to get to and doesnt look too complicated. Tractor data doesnt say how much it,weighs or much of anything, really...... I think I,can get it bought for about $1800. But I dont want to give more than scrap price.

JayIn: Here is a little advice - I wouldn't get too infatuated with a backhoe that doesn't work as it should unless you are able to purchase it for scrap value. The I 600 is not an integral frame backhoe.

Many of the early backhoe designs in the US failed because the shock loads were wrecking engine housings, main frames and final drives. Look up integral frame backhoe and you will see why that is important design feature.

We have a number of 600 series AC Industrial machines still in this area and I know of only a handful that remain working. Likely because they are being operated by a single owner operator and the machine is being worked within its design capacity. I have a AC 615 and it is set up to take a hoe. It has the loader on it and it works as it should. After much research and discussion with AC engineers I would recommend you jump up to the 715 or 816 for LBH. That said, I have a Dynahoe A model that is integral frame machine and is a beast of a digger.

If it runs good, and has the series II motor, the motor alone is a high priced item.
