I'm thinking about using my '53 WD to mow with and was wondering what mower(s) did Allis match up with the WDs in 1953?  Is it reasonable to think I might fine a AC mower (as referenced above) in decent shape at a reasonable price?  Thanks!

well since the Amish aren't using them I'll bet you there are plenty around just waiting for you to find them, both side and rear mount jobs. They are plenty heavy but unbeatable for hay or stubble.........good luck....

Best Allis Mower is the 80 Series with the Twin Wheel drive - no wooden Pitman shaft.

A 80 or 82 series (also known as the twin drive) 7' sickle would work well on the WD. The R desination is rear mounted, the S is the belly (or side mount) and the T is the trail mount. They are available here in the midwest for $300-$400 (tho its hard to find one that does not need some TLC), don't know how common these mowers are around the east coast. I have an 80R for my D14 and it works real nice and installs quickly. The T model hooks up even quicker. Make sure you have all the mounting hardware if you find one.

Also a no.7 that is twin wheel drive, but I agree that the 80&82 are better mowers. Kenny L.

I bought a #3 for $125 came with two sets of mounts the parking stand and original manual. I replaced the pitman stick and it works good. takes about 2 minutes to install. When I was a kid we cut all our hay with one and its a good simple mower. Anyone of the twin wheel drive mowers are better mowers untill you need to get parts to fix it.

Flint23,

That is an 82S which is, in my opinion, a much better mower than the 80S in that
the mounting is a lot less complicated and when set up right will lift to full vertical
with it's own hydraulic ram.
