On one of our 185 tractors, the tube that holds the dipstick and protrudes through the block into the oilpan has become loose. Anyone know of a way to tighten this up without using JB weld as someone at the dealer suggested. Thanks, David

Clean both surfaces and use red loctite.

take it out and knurl it with a pair of vice grips and then drive it back in,

Take a wedge-type concrete anchor just small enough to fit in, and run a screw into it. You can do the same by sticking in a smaller aluminum tube and doing the same... or run a lag screw in it. I've warmed 'em up red and stretched dipstick tubes a smidgen with a phillips screwdriver... and then apply any favorite concoction of techno-spit to it. I like two-part epoxy, but any techno-goo will doo.

Thanks for the input guys. As soon as I get my gasket for the oil filter housing, this will get due attention. Of the three 301 engines we have, this is the only that has loosened up.
