| Great loader but has leak from shuttle shift fluid up in housing does any one have experience with this and how to fix . Also for person with the HD-6 on what kind of trans fluid my manual saws type F |

Torque converter uses Type A Dextron fluid. Finals and trany use gear lube. HD4 is nothing like a HD6 , one is industrial machine other is Construction line ------------- Faith isn't a jump in the dark. It is a walk in the light. Main thing is the amount of friction used on the clutches in the automatic transmissions . how much difference it would make in the shuttle clutch friction plates ? | Where is it leaking? I have a 653 with leaks around the shuttle control valve by the batteries that I have not been able to stop. All new o rings and still it leaks bad. Is this a common problem? |

Thanks, our HD4 does have a distinct leak, but not out of control. We are using it to move snow, but too damn cold to figure where the leak is....spring is coming!
However, I checked the fluid on the dipstick and it is more brownish than ATF fluid and seems like a bit heavier as well, so I'm a little concerned about adding the wrong fluid.
Anybody got any thoughts?

On the leak on the control valve - the spool could be pitted or the bore worn enough to allow leakage - OR the "O" rings could be the wrong size . I put all new rings int omy control valves both on the shuttle and the bucket controls and had no problem with leaks after . Rather than buying the full kit to rebuild i just did the rings themselves. Make sure the material of the "O" ring is right material if you used other than AC rings . On the color of the ATF - if it is brown - time to change it as it is contaminated with either moisture, particles or the wrong fluid added at some time. ------------- Faith isn't a jump in the dark. | Thanks Coke! I did by the rings from Minn Par. I should have measured things but was in a hurry! Maybe I should just look for a replacement valve and test the shuttle pressure |

In some cases where a "O" ring will not seal it is because the recess into which it fits is to big and ring does not form right - a backer washer is used also to make sure ring fits properly . These are found mostly in hydraulic cylinders but can be used in other positions also. Interesting suggestion. Know of a good place to find used parts for these as you are relatively close to me. I really need the linkages for the power steering clutches as I just have some cables in there now |
