Hi guys.

Was wondering about the soybean heads on N5s. My father used to have an M2, an f before that. Now he has a 1460. He loved most of the aspects of the gleaners(rotary aside) but the heads sucked compared to his 1460. It will EAT a field compared to a gleaner of the same vintage and not knock it off b4 it gets inside. My question is for my brother, He purchased a farm this year and has a 190 acres of beans. He has been looking at a 1460 and an N5. From experience and the looks of the general head design, N5's didnt have a new design, so I am assuming they will also wont be any good. If anyone has any experience of an N series head vs an M2 I would appriciate it. And please no saying how wonderful all gleaner M2 heads are, we run alot of grain and they arent in the same league. I really want him to buy the N5. It would go nice with our colection;7080,7060,220,190xtIII wd45. Thanks in advance.

The 1460 would be way easier to get parts for, aftermarket and oem. The N5 is a way simpler setup and easier to repair. As far as heads go, My 810 on my IH combine is similar to the John Deere 200 series as well as the Gleaner head I had on my K2, they all are old and do a decent job.

you can upgarde to a later model gleaner head like 800 or 8000.The N5 WAS A GOOD COMBINE I had one new in 1985 ser# 7114. The 8000 head will eat I like it. Jim.

There is a HUGE difference between the old 300 series heads to the 500 and just as big a jump to the 800 - 8000. Like Jim in MO says, go with a newer style head.

With 190a I would go with M2 with JD head over a N5. MACK

Thanks for the replys guys, he needs a rotary bc of the hiily nature of his farm in ky, if anyone has any pics of the 800-8000 series
I sure would appriciate.it
