on an l series- looks like a long rod- hard to get out? just drop the pin and bang it out? anybody ever done this?

They are usually a bitch to remove.The rod is either stuck(rusted) to the door or where it goes thru the throat.Make sure that you remove the wire that operates the rock door light ,and then drive the rod out with a smaller diameter rod or shaft.Try not to mushroom the end of the rod and use plenty of penetrating oil.It might help to drive it out one way a bit and then go back the opposite way.Be careful,that door is heavy.

I had a similar problem with an L3, Finally left it and went on combining it was seized so bad...about three year later some one picked up a stone. Broke the door right off, made it much easier to heat up the hinge and get the rod out...it is heavy.

Time goes by and I forget, but on our 81 N6 if I remember right, there was a roll pin in the middle of the hex shaft that you turned the door up with. Ours seemed like it came out easy once the roll pin was removed, the shaft pullled right out, and the door came out.

worst case ....get the sazzall. trim off inside by door edge. then you heat and beat it out. door on an F is heavy....can't imagine what yours weighs....good luck and be CAREFULL !!
