Has anyone put a 12v generator on their tractor not an alternator?

Absolutely. A lot of folks like to keep the OEM appearance with a Generator, but also like to upgrade the older 6V system to 12V. In most cases, a voltage regulator is used in conjunction with the Gennie to help with the regulation of charging chores. I change over 6V gennies to 12V. You also can install a 12V gennie from a 50's GM product. Depending on what model Tractor you have, if your Tractor is a B,C,or CA model for instance, you can "hide" the VR in the toolbox, or if you're not that critical on the look, piggy back the VR on top of the Gennie. We offer wiring systems for those who want to move to 12V and a Gennie. If you want to keep the Ammeter, it would be a good move to upgrade the Ammeter to a 60/60 sweep and loose the OEM 20/20. OR you can go to an optional Voltmeter in lieu of the Ammeter. Make sure you upgrade the switches if you decide to move to 12V. When getting a Generator, always mate a VR to the Gennie by using the ID tag number to ID the max output of the Gennie if there still is a tag on the unit. HTH.... Steve@B&B

I have done what Steve said on the last 4 or 5 CA's/Bs I have rehabbed. They work great and with the VR in the tool box, they look original and work great (the tractors don't need much amps charging since they do not have a lot of electrical equipment on them).

I put a 12V generator on my WD45. Put the VR on the front of the battery box. Works great. Used the factory 6 volt mounting bracket and just used a special thick bushing on the rear mount to bolt it up since the 12V genny is longer than the 6v. Mike
