The coil contact on the inside of "G" distributor cap burns away very fast. Any ideas out there??????? Thanks

To much voltage to the coil maybe? Rotor not seated properly. Is the tab on the rotor wore odd or anything like that????

First thing I'd look at, is whether there's a mismatch between the cap, rotor, or distributor body, which is causing the rotor to not make full contact to the center. Burning away occurs because there's an arc occurring where there should be conductive contact. The second issue I'd look for, is some sort of contamination between the contact surfaces...

With the early Delco units, there is a couple rotors that will "fit", but the application is not correct. This could cause a misalignment with the center high tension button in the middle causing the condition you have. I've seen an incorrect rotor actually cut a groove in all the high tension contacts in the cap. The brass part of the rotor was also bent, but not broken. Its important to have the correct parts working with one another. Low voltage is another culprit of burnt up caps and ignition components. Inspect the wiring from the Ignition switch to coil and coil to Distributor. Doesn't matter if its 6 or 12V system. A misfiring set of points grounding to the breaker plate could be another cause, but you should hear the engine misfire while running or idling... HTH
