Quick question: I've got a thoroughly cleaned out carb and a newly sealed gas tank (no more clogged up carb) on my Allis G (48). The tractor idles very nicely and can be throttled down low without stalling BUT only when the idle pin is at maximum richness (idle adjusting screw is all the way in... factory is one and a half turn out). Even a half-turn will cause the tractor to weeze and the governor to kick in finally stalling out. The only thing out of place as far as parts is a larger diameter fuel hose (3/8 instead of 1/4). DO I have a problem I should fix or is it fine to have the carb set to maximum richness? Also my exhaust is clean, not black. Tractor drives great.

If it runs good, and no black smoke, then you mixture is fine, all is well.

Sorry, but I don't agree wit' dat. If your air/fuel mix screw is cranked all the way in, its running dead lean. You should be able to adjust it out and fatten up the mix and dial the engine in without the engine stalling. You still have dirt in that carb yet or you have a problem on the enrichment side. Its getting fuel from somewhere if the air/fuel needle is bottomed out...

Sounds like you may have an intake leak i use a piece of hose or plastic tubing and put one end to your ear and move other end around carb and manifold gaskets to hear any intake leaks

From what I understand from the manual the fuel mixture with the pin threaded all the way in is very RICH, not lean... unless I misunderstand you. The intake leak idea seems possible, I will take a look.
I will tell you this: Before I sealed the tank we cleaned out the carb and replaced some parts and then "bench tested" it with a false gas tank on the tractor with a 1/4 hose. Tractor ran great but needed to be leaned out. NOW I've got the real gas tank (all sealed) and a 3/8 hose on there and the pin has to be in for the mix to be right.

The float level could be off, too much fuel in the float bowl, or the float needle could be not shutting off completely.
Some idle screws are air, not fuel, so all the way screwed in is max fuel, min air. I suspect the carburetor passages aren't truly clean, especially the idle air passages.
