The rubber mounting was actually quite a good idea. It was developed by the LaCrosse engineering department.   Much handier than broken shear pins or broken coulters and also tend to be more resilient than some spring mounting  mechanism.   After about 20 years or so of use, they do tend to get weak and need to be replaced (especially if the plow has to sit outside) and they are expensive, but work well for many many years with no attention.  Allis also used rubber cushions in the mounting clamps for the shanks on their newer field cultivators.  It allowed the shank to move in any direction to avoid obstructions.  You can read about them on page 246 of Norm Swinford's book.

well. Maybe. But I have plows 40 years older than this one with steel mounted coulters and they still work great. Maybe thats why usually when you find an old plow in the weeds or off to the side of a field in the woods the coulters have been cobbed off of it. On the field cultivators tho, I totally agree. Just venting, I guess. I love the way this 2000 plow works, but in this case the coultes, or lack of, in my situation, are the difference between an ok job and a great job. It has been in set aside for quite a few years, and would be nice if the coulters hadnt broke off to cut the sod a bit and also cut some of the dead fall weeds so it wouldnt plug up.

Are the rubber mounts still available anywhere?

They were available from AGCO last I knew.  Quite pricey (like anything today).  Hopefully you only have a three bottom plow!!!
