Marylou and I are in Vegas for the NHRA drag races. We are going to do some touring next week. We plan on going to go to Hoover Dam, grand canyon. Can anybody recommend any other sites to see down here. Also is there any members in this area.
Brian

Hi Brian Stop at Williams on the 40 / Old Route 66. A 50's and 60's era town. And you can take a Steam Engine passenger train from Williams 60 miles north to Grand Canyon. Walk the 'Skywalk' between Vegas and Grand Canyon. http://www.grandcanyonskywalk.com/" rel="nofollow - http://www.grandcanyonskywalk.com/ ArmandAZ I believe is in Mesa (Phoenix) Did you find a CrewCab Truck yet? We were in Vegas last week. Rented a car to tour Hover Dam and Red Rock Canyon.
Tours to the dam don't give you enough time to do the tour through the actual dam and not just the power plant. Drove over the by pass bridge. Took the Maverick helicopter sunset tour to the west rim of the Grand Canyon and landed. On the return you see the sunset, fly over the dam and finish with a tour up and down the strip as the lights come on. (not cheap). Be sure to check out Fremont street in Old Vegas after dark.

As long as you are running out to Hoover, head on down towards Kingman AZ....take the turnoff to Chloride and see if the owner of that Speed Patrol is around...maybe even find this saloon. Cool old mining town....
Robin gave it a thumbs down because there was no alcohol there......

I got my fix of nitro fumes yesterday, and Marylou got her first. We got right up to the rope when Robert Hight and the crew were ready to fire up the funny car. She asked me why all the crew guys and some of the spectators were wearing gas mask's. Well after about 10 seconds when they switch over from alcohol to nitro, it hit, and she went running. Then as we were standing at the back they burped the throttle. I was grinning all day after that. She said that I was not right in the head.

Most dont deal well with the noise let alone the nitric acid. Tolerating both is some what missery without hearing protection and a canister filter mask. Sheri's Ranch

If you go north check out Scottys castle. Tour takes about a hour but verry interesting. Best I rember it's about 1.5 hours north -northwest. There is a whole lot of nothing between vegas and there.Scott

as mentioned, red rock canyon. especially if you like hiking up small streams instead of trails. 5 steps from car to streambed.

Do the chopper ride if you can. I did once a long time ago and it was well worth it. They landed in the Grand Canyon for a break. Night time return over the strip is awesome. Some of the generators in the power plant still have the A-C logo on them.

We are going to try for all the sugestions listed, except the helicopter ride. We spent that money at the track, maybe next trip. We are going to relax by the pool today after 2 busy days at the track. The John Force traveling roadshow is quite amazeing. I would like to know how much Castrol spends a year on his teams.

I went to the NHRA Drag Races outside Phoenix 2 years ago. You talk about Rolling Thunder, 300+ MPH in 4 secs. Seen John Force in action, both driving and interviews !! Gary

If you go to the Grand Canyon take a hike below the rim on the Bright Angel Trail or the North Kaibib trail. You can go down as far as you want and come back up. Awesome! If you have time drive to Page Az. and take the raft trip on the Colorado River. It starts at the Glen Canyon Dam. It is a smoothwater trip and the scenery is great.

Ahhhh, there's nothin' like a good jolt of Nitro in the morning, and your hair full of burnt rubber by the afternoon! Nitro cleans out the sinus'. If anyone has sinus' problems, they won't after they get a good dose of Nitro. Nothin' like lookin' down pit row and seeing this giant yellow cloud forming as 7500 HP lights up under each tent. Its great! Its Top Fuel racin' !!

the first NHRA event I went to the wife and I were walking through the pits and I couldn't believe people were backing away from the banner tape by one of the top fuelers, so we walked right up and stood there when they fire that bad boy up...and then I went running to fresh air...lol
