For those of you that have seen any of my other posts, you will know that I have a 1952 WD that I'm trying to get running. The motor was seized up. I had to tear it all the way down in order to get the pistons unstuck. I cleaned up the cylinders, put new rings, and put it back together. I also converted it over to 12V. While I had it all apart, I decided to start getting it ready for new paint too, so I got part of it in primer. I have been so excited, waiting for the moment I fired it up.
My Dad acquired this tractor in a car deal about 5 yrs ago. I had it running back then, and then my parents moved away. The tractor sat outside in the weather all these yrs so I'm not surprised the motor was locked up. Anyway, my Dad has been so excited too. He wants to see it running probably as bad as I do.
I fired it up today only to discover a crack about half the length of the block seeping oil out. I haven't the heart to tell my Dad. He's going to be so disappointed.Cry

it seems odd to me that it is seeping oil and not water.  you would think if the block froze and cracked it would be in a water jacket.  where is the crack?

OR...

there's oil in the water, and it's seeping BOTH.  If the block has a crack down along the waistline, there's a chance the internal webbing between the sleeves has cracked, causing water to leak around the sleeves, and into the sump... but if there's a crack in the casting in some area where the gallery has also been compromised, that may be the reason.
