Removed final drive housing, removed inner pinion shaft. My book says to remove snap ring and press or pull clutch from shaft. I don't see a snap ring. Where is it? What is the best way to remove this clutch and drum without breaking anything. I found out that the brake drum is $570.00 from Agco, I don't want to break that!

I have a drum here if you need it. Has wear, but very useable.

No snap ring holding the clutch to the pinion shaft. The clutch is held onto the pinion shaft by a half moon key; pull the clutch off the shaft. Some slide off easier than others; you may need to use long pry bars thru the windows in the final to pry it off. I had one that the brake drum portion was worn real bad and did not want to pay the AGCO price for a new one...took it to my local machine shop and the turned the drum down and machined a ring that press fit onto the drum to get it back to the right OD; they even spot welded the new ring in several places...much less $$ than a new one and about the same $$$ as a worn one from a donor.

My I & T manual (admitedly not the last word) shows a snapring as item 53 on dwg. fig. AC129 in section 285. So if you see one, it`s there, if you don`t, it isn`t.

There is a snap ring on the inboard end of the outer pinion shaft and outbard of the axle clutch. It needs to be removed only if you want to remove the outer pinion shaft. The outer pinion shaft does not need to be removed to pull the clutch off it. One needs to remove the outer pinion shaft if the bearings and/or seals are shot.

Thanks for all the information guys. I tried everything I can think of the get this clutch off with no success, if I use anymore pressure something is going to break. After 55 years it's set, I think it could have been engineered a little better. So if anyone has any idea how to get it to move I would greatly appreciate it!

At very least stand that final drive on end and get it soaking with 50/50, acetone/atf mixture. Then put it into a Hyd. Press like Dick shows from time to time here on Forum.

All Orange Sounds like you have one of "not so easy" ones to remove. Patience, persistance, and "panther pizz" (soaking with your favorite penetrating oil) are in order. Keep working it with the long pry bars thru the windows; If you have a long chisel, you can use it as a wedge behind the clutch pack/brake drum to get it to move. It will come off eventually. Once you get it out, polish the shaft (and bore) with emory and apply a lot of neversieze when reassembling it. I have two large PDF files with pictures on how I rebuild the clutch; pm me your regular email and I will send them to you.
