Hi have any of y'all had experiences using pelleted chicken litter for topdressing your grassy hayfields? I have never read nor thought about. Last year I used the D15 II and 3 pt hitch spinner to apply urea. I wonder how the price compares to traditional petro based ferts? One site said analysis of 5-3-2.

Had some neighbors use them on corn and hay. No good. Can't put enough on economically to make up the nutrient difference in commercial fertilizer. Now if you have some real chicken litter available, that will make grass grow on a rock. Bill

Helped a co-worker apply to Bosses pastures and hay fields last spring did not appear to help at all.  Grass never turned the dark green that is the result of using 17-17-17.  Don't remember the price but think it was  5 to 600 a ton.  Comes in a large bag that must be held over the spreader and uses a "choke" rope to open and close.   We used a tractor with forks on a front loader to hold the bag up to fill the spreader.  The smell was the only true effect of chicken litter Pheeeeeeeeeew.    Tim

Organic farmers use it, analysis not that high but nutrients are available. $200 a ton bulk picked up at plant. But heard price is going up because of demand.

There is getting to be so many people trying to sell organic this and that out there...must be more $$$$$ in manure than veggies from the prices they are asking.
Someone on CL out here was selling it for 50 cents a lb!  Worms and worm crap is the other big thing in organics....I just haul in some horse manure and it is full of worms.....
