I have a spare pump on a extra block that I was thinking about having rebuilt. Anyone have a reputable shop to recomend? Do they go "bad" from sitting on the shelf? I know it's going to be expensive to rebuild, but is it worth it to have a spare around? Any input appreciated.

Chad, whatever you do don't try to turn the pump if it has been sitting dry, i.e. no fuel lines hooked up with diesel fuel in them.  There are two parts that can break, one is expensive, the other destroys the pump even as a core.  I will let some on here who are more knowledgable on pump shops weigh in.  Michael

I have had up to 3 sitting here for last 5+ years. just sold 1 as-is, core unit, buyer took to shop and was happy with what they reported [ nothing major damaged inside] $125 was selling price. I would put your $$ in your savings acct and let it sit. There is very little demand for those pumps, deal with it when time comes if needed. Think about it, all the WD45D owners have working pumps that rarely break down, if it does, there pump shop will fix it. I'm rammbling, cash is king, keep it in your pocket [ for now anyway].

Thanks for the replies. Good advice from both.....looks like it will stay bolted to the block for now.
