I have a 353 NH grinder-mixer. My book is for a 352 model. I am just assuming they have the same tank. The book says it holds 100 cu. ft. or 80 bushels by volume. On the mixing tank it says something about 45 lbs. per bushel. My question is this, if ear corn, which I am using, is 2.5 cu ft. per bushel then it would hold 40 bushel (100 divided by 2.5) but the 2.5 wouldn't be right after grinding. The stuff I am mixing with the corn is kinda pricey and I would like to make sure I am mixing it right. Thanks, JP

I never had a New Holland, but most all grinder mixers I was ever around (JD, IH, Farmhand, MF) had a chart on the side of the tank that corresponded with numbers by the windows in the side of the tank that told how much weight of several different grains (shelled corn, ear corn, oats, milo, wheat, etc.) If yours doesn't have the sticker on the tank anymore, maybe there is a chart in the book? Maybe someone on here has a New Holland like yours and will answer soon. I had IH, Dad had MF. IH and MF were both built by Artsway. Neighbor I used to help had a 400 JD. HTH.

Jack, how about grinding a little ear corn and weighing it in a 5 gallon bucket, then you would know the weight per cu ft of your ground corn. From there you could calculate how much supplement to add to a mixer load. 5 gallon is about .7 cubic feet.

Weigh a few five gallon buckets after grinding to get your density the calculate the volume or weigh it empty then grind your ear corn to fill it however full and then reweigh or weigh a pickup truck or wagon full of ear corn then grind and mark the tank. There is probably a truck scale near by at an feed mill, elevator or fertilizer dealer. Probably could pull it with a pick up or take a nice tractor ride two times! We have an electronic scale on our grinder mixer and it is the best thing for making consistantly uniform rations. I think you can make full batches work pretty well but under that would take a lots of attention to detail. RW

My book don't give any info on this. The chart on the mixer says "ear corn 45lbs by volume" I think. I made 2 mixers full Monday and put it on a gravity wagon but the quarry down the road was closed so I couldn't weigh it. I guees I will wait til next time and weigh it and I will know. Thanks, JP

we used the grinder mixer for ear corn.... I dont recall mixing anything init. We didt grind much at a time because even though it had been in the crib it would still heat up. I supose you would have to weigh everything out each time depending on the moisture content each batch would be a bit different.
