Tractors are like women, if you work them hard then you have to clean them up so they look nice again. lol
If you keep your pics at 800 X 600 they will load.

Yes sir all original paint. Motor Was rebuilt in 1960 but that is all that has ever been done to it. Guy i purchased it from used it to load round bales during the summer. That was it's sole purpose since 1965 when he purchased a D17 Series IV as his big tractor to do the bailing and plowing and big jobs etc. . It does not burn an ounce of oil and the tranny is strong. PTO was rarely used. I think the layer of oil and dirt on the motor and trannsmission really helped preserve the paint..lol

I don't think that's original. Decals are completely wrong. Still looks good.

I should say the decals are somewhat wrong. The one on the side frame is wrong for sure.

The hood decal should look like this..........
Of course this is not original either but the decals are copies of the original. Just for your own information.

I will not argue decal either. Well The older gentlemen i bought it from purchased it in 1960 and he never painted it. He had the motor rebuilt. I am guessing that it may have been redone then.....someone must of ran the out of it to need it rebuilt at only 6 years old. I was wondering about the decals myself cause i was chacking the patent list that is on the side rail and allot of them were for the d17...
thanks for the info guys

Those were the decals that allis sold in the 80's as  the decal kit, the only reason I know this is that my dad repainted his 45 in the mid to later 80s and his are the same, not saying your tractor was repainted , just when dad repainted his I remember telling him it didnt look right because the decals were not like the orig ones, he told me I was crazy and the were the same but they were not, his still has those decals on it to this day, just something I remember from 25 or so years ago

My unpainted 56 model has no white trim around the letters. Just black letters.

Well, these decals came from Lyle Wacker specifically for a 1952 WD. Are they right? I can't guarantee it but they look good for now. Do you think the white trim has faded away? Now I'll have to take a closer look at my old AC videos to see if I can tell if there is a white border. bdalmamn's tractor still looks real good and I don't think I would do anything to it as long as it looks that good.

I'd have to look again....seems like I paid attention to them before and nothing hinting to be around the letters.guess I need to run up to the barn and do an inspection.

Whatever the case might be..?  I like the looks of how you cleaned it up.  I don't think you can beat the classic old shiny paint, different decals, 2nd owner's long credibility, Kansas origin, & primer coming through on front wheel centers.  I think it should make a good candidate for the allis-connection 2013 calendar?

Went to the barn....only black letters and you can faintly see the top/bottom edge of decal against the paint and the edges are even with the edge of letter so there was never white surrounding it......it does however have a little white trim around the WD45 decal on radiator shell.

Here's a promotional film of the early WD45. Looks like these tractors on the film have the white border. I wonder if the later ones didn't like on your 56' Steve?

HMMM! Well,I've been clear through my 45 over the years and never saw any indication of repainting. I must confess, however,I've only had it since 1980 and don't know it's history. It could use a paint job but it lives inside, that takes time and is alot of work.
Maybe AC wasn't all that pickey about their decals or used different vendors through production. They were cranking out alot of units back then and as long as it said ALLIS-CHALMERS,good 'nuf?

This is my 45 shortly after I repainted it in 1982. The decals came from Allis Chalmers

I'm pretty sure Dave came from the factory with that color hair... but it's probably faded a bit since then...
