Hey guys I removed the pump off the 1970 XT III. I couldn't get the long drive shaft out but I do have the pump on my bench. Does the shaft stay with the tractor and when I reinstall pump I have to slide back on being careful to get those 2 rubber cupped seals to slide in? Thanks amigoes! Dana

Shaft stays with tractor and yes you have to be careful reinstalling the pump so you dont flip the seals, replace them while apart.

Yes, shaft stays in tractor. You will get new umbrella seals if you have it rebuilt and when you reinstall you need to be sure they do not get folded over. There is a special tool to aid in this process which is very helpful, but is not necessarily needed. I think InjPumpEd knows what the tool is called, and the part # for it.

tool is a tweezer type tool, part # 13371 stanadyne. I loan mine out to customers whose pump I rebuild. It's a $25 tool otherwise.

I use a snap on pick that has a curl on the end of it to make sure they do not 'roll' over when putting the pump on. It is a little tricky but after you do it a couple times and get over the sweating that you screwed it up, it is not that hard, you just have to take your time and be careful.

If you wire the throttle linkage - wide open - it also helps to keep everything solid inside the pump , if you get the umbrella seals started in the tube right, most of the time theres no problem , you can get the special tool to install them from Capital Diesel in Holts Summit Mo . for 12 bucks too
