How can it steer without the hydraulic cylinder? Did you put another cylinder on it?

I do not know if all 190s were like our, but we can take teh front end off, and put on a tricycle front pedistal, we have done this before to hill tall corn.

Doyle, the steering system on a 190 is completely different from a D17.  D17 is mechanical steering with power assist.  The 190 is fully hydrostatic - no mechanical linkage.  Needs a cylinder for it to steer.

Ours must have been changed around then because it has no cylinder and still steers fine.

The early 190's and 190XT's were available with an OPTIONAL interchangeable front steering support underneath the radiator. This steering support had internal hydraulic cylinders that did the hydrostatic steering very similar to a D17 so you could have a narrow front or a wide front axle. This was an OPTION and you paid extra for it. It didn't last too many years and was dropped altogether because very few ever wanted a narrow front anyway.

Dr. Allis,
Do all of the interchangeable fronts have the cylinder in them? I have 2 68 190's and they both have the interchangable fronts for the block on them. Just wandering if they would have the cylinders in them.
