Hi Experts!
I was looking for your OPINION...
I have a 1950 WD. I am going on a tractor ride where I will probably have to run my WD at full bore all the way,, almost 40 miles. This is the speed they wish to go..around 12 mph. I THINK, my WD governer is faster than when it came out (I do not have a tach on it). Do you think it will hurt my tractor to drive that fast for that long?

My 49 WD turns 2000 rpm no-load, but settles down when driving. I dont like the vibrations at 2 grand so I just keep it throttled back until I get into a pull like plowiing then I give her he-poor word choice! Some of the more experienced fellows like our retired dealers and mechanics can probably tell us but I think AC had a vibration problem around 2300 rpms.

IMO - I have run in many tractor rides for 10 years with my 45. I have put a 17 spring in it and have been able to keep with the crowd. I have clocked it at 15.2 mph(wide open throtle). Most of the time they run an average of 11 mph. If you have any JD's in the drive, I know you can out run them. If you replace the spring you should be able run right along especially if you have oversize tires(13.6).

All the years I went on the WHO tractor ride I ran my CA at full throttle. The 125 engine doesn't have pressure lubed connecting rods, they depend on squirt holes in the hollow camshaft to line up with holes in the rod caps while it's running. Your WD has pressure lubed rods so unless there is a mechanical problem, it will be fine.

"Full throttle" is the "governed" speed the engine is designed to run at for best power and economy. I can't imagine that "running down the road" at "full governed speed" could hurt your tractor if you drove from New York to California.

Fresh oil and filter will ease your mind when your buzzing along.I get a chuckle when some of the old JDs have to stop to drop out of high gear on some of the hills.

Thanks for the replies guys... I took a GPS out tonight and took a drive, it says I am going 14-15 full throttle...and I think 12 at about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle...so I think I will be ok after hearing what you all are telling me.

My son just drove my WD45 60 mi to get it to our home shop. Took just over 4 hr -gps at 15 mph due to over size tires. 14.9 x 28. Used 1/4 tank of gas. Wide open all the way. Runs like a hound.

Mike - this tractor ride will be good for your WD to clean out any carbon in the engine . Hope there are some hills to give the govener a work out. Lift up the front end and check the from wheel bearings for any extra play and have the bearings been packed resently.Have fun on your ride!
