Hi
I got one of the guys to push me with a loader.   tried a couple times each way to free her up. no luck.  insanity kicked in and today in 95 Degree  weather I pulled the head. the good news is it looks good inside.  some rust around the piston tops  but otherwise fairly clean.  I am still working at the recyclers.  hope to have if home by the week end.  I have to work an  11 day stretch cause two of my coworkers are taking vacation at the same time.  and they wonder why there was a rule about people living together working there.  anyway  the bad news is two of the rocker shaft supports part  number 23791  are split up the middle.  any idea what caused this.  and where can i get two of them or should I just weld them back together? I bought the service manual and owners manual.  I    also borrowed a parts book and scanned it into my computer.  they got a new scanner copier printer at work and it has a document feeder so I just stacked it on and left it go while i was on the air Sunday morning.

Some of the smaller D series tractors use a 149 engine. I have seen the rocker shaft supports cracked as you described. You can try to get them from a salvage yard, or you can contact AGCO for them. They were about 50 dollars a piece about 6 or 7 years ago, but they were available.

As to why they cracked, that is a good question that I can't answer. However, I can tell you that you can crack the others if not careful. If you reinstall the rocker arm assembly without loosening the rocker arm adjustment nut and backing off you run the risk of cracking more rocker shaft supports. When you tighten the rocker arm in place it causes the rocker arm to tighten on the push rods and can crack the standoff support if they are too tight.

Think for yourself and be your own expert. Be willing to change your mind; however, willingness to change your mind doesn’t mean that you will. Blindly following any path is the pinnacle of insanity.

When I took mine apart one was cracked. Figured it to be from over torquing.
