I've got a B-1 AC garden tractor.  The last time it ran was in 1996, when the motor locked up.  The old Briggs motor is hard to get parts for and I am considering a repower with a new motor.  Has anyone ever repowered a B-1?  What info do I need off the tractor?

I'm interested in any and all info you can provide.  The tractor is in good condition and has been shedded since it quit.

One other thing, I'm having trouble locating the serial number, any hints on where to look?  Am I looking for a tag or a stamp in the frame?

Thanks.

Glenn

Serial Number was a sticker behind the seat. no stamped numbers except the engine number on the fan cowl. you can find a lot of info on simpletractors.com  the biggest problem with a repower is the trany drives off the flywheel end of the engine. those old briggs are extremly tought and not hard to get parts for.

Parts are available, You cannot buy an engine that good anymore, do a complete rebuild of engine and it will last for many more years. Sandy Lake implement is a B+S dealer as well as AC parts supplier, ask for Brenda. If unable to do the rebuild yourself, send them the engine and they will rebuild it.

Rebuilt ours a few years ago. At that time some of the parts were discontinued like certain sizes of pistons, maybe the rod too. I was able to get a piston, NOS 30 over piston w/rod, stellite seats, guides, valves. Its a model 19 engine. From fall to spring it sat in the garage, full choke, low idle and one wrap on the pull start and it fired right up on leftover citgo 110/93 2-stroke that it had in the tank.
