I was looking on another site and someone mentioned most HD-10's had a Detroit engine. Mine has the Buda. Anyone know the engine history on these and when the transition was, or were they making them with both at the same time?

Has your crawler had a engine re-power ? The HD10's were made from 1940 to 1949 and had the GM (Detroit) 4/71 engine, not a Buda engine. Allis Chalmers didn't take-over Buda until the mid 1950's. The HD10 was in the same crawler series as the HD7 and the HD14. All had GM power.

You sure you've got a HD10 ? According to reference books, production of the HD10 stopped in 1949. Have you got a serial number for your crawler ?

Forestgnome, as stated prior, it must have been a repower. 7's 10's
& 14's came with the "low block" 71 series Detroit. Is your Buda a 6
cylinder with the injection in the top of the heads or the LaNova fuel
cell injection on the sides of the head? this will date the engine,
probably from an early HD11 is the first thing that comes to mind, and
any rate it is cool to have something different. 1958 is way late for a "10", the HD9 was before that and it replaced the "10". Take a look on the right rear corner of the main chassis, you will find the serial#.
