I want to tighten the clutch on my 1944 model B but I don't really know how to. I have a copy of the owners manuel but it tells me to remove the cover on the lower end of the clutch housing. Then turn the adjusting screws until I have 1/4 clearance. I looked and I can't find the screws and I don't know what the manuel is talking about. |

You go through the hole in the bottom of the clutch housing. Let me see if I can remember back some almost 40 years. There are three clutch fingers. They are pushed forward by a "throw out bearing". The 1/4" clearance is between the throw out bearing and the clutch fingers. It can be adjusted by adjustment screws on the fingers. There is a lock nut that needs to be loosened. Then the adjustment can be made and the lock nots re-tightened. Repeat till all three are set. There is also a small adjustment that can be made on the clutch rod. To adjust the clutch rod is removed from the clutch pedal and turned to adjust. We very seldom used that adjustment but adjusted the clutch with the fingers. Hope this is some help. Does the clutch slip? If it does, is the petal at the end of it's travel?
If it is slipping, and the petal has play, you need a new clutch.

Hi,
This may give you an idea-you can see the 3 levers and adjustment bolts your manual is talking about. You will have to loosen the nut that hold the adjustment bolt, then turn the bolt to give you the proper clearance, then retighten the nut.
A tight fit if you have big hands, but can be done. All 3 levers need to have the same clearance.

| The clutch fingers are adjusted to be 1-13/16" from the clutch disc. Once this is accomplished, the 1/4" between the throw out bearing and the fingers is done by removing the cotter pin that holds the clutch rod to the pedal and rotating the rod to adjust. The rod is threaded at the end where it attaches to the throw out bearing inside the bell housing. The fingers are usually adjusted when a new clutch disc is installed and the tractor is split. I would imagine it would last the lifetime of the disc as long as free play has been maintained between the throw out bearing and the fingers. When the disc wears the fingers move toward the throw out bearing. It will be hard to do put together. |

It sounds to me like you want to adjust the free travel of the pedal, which has nothing to do with adjusting the fingers on the clutch.

WC7610, I see you have a 9" clutch, is this a B? Or a D10/12.
