Hi,
What kind of suggestions does everyone have on what to do first before I try and start a 7060 that hasn't run for several years. I will change the oil before i try and start it, just wondering what else I should check and or replace.

You need to check the air cleaner and air filter housing for mice or bird nests, the exhaust should be clecked for same type of stuff, then as long as you make sure there is not water in any of the oil galleys fire her up. Your idea of changing the oil first is a good idea, but you really need to change it again while it is at operating temp, this will allow the suspended particles to come out "with" the oil, rather than stay in the pan. Let the tractor get good and warmed up, so it burnes off any water in the oil, that may be sitting on parts up in the engine. But unless it has been open to the enviornments (open lines, no exhaustcap, e.t.c.) you shouldn't have to much to worry about. Just let it idle for a while, say 5 mins, to get every thing recoated in oil, i.e rocker arms, before you start "playin" around with her. If you don't want to clean up a big mess, then put a non flamable tarp over the hood and roof, she is going to spit a lot of carbon out of the exhaust when she first runs, since it has has a long time to dry out.

One thing I forgot, is mice nests inside the dash. I tried to burn up a D-21 once after a long sit, becasue once she was running the mice nest packed in the voltage regulator under the dash started to work too, i.e got hot, and started a small fire. Fortunately I smelled it early, shut her down, and was able to dig it out. Mice love tractors sitting around they are perfect "houses."

I believe I would remove top of injection pump & remove as much varnish as possible & fill it with Dexron product, then install new fuel filter & likely drain fuel tank & put in new fuel. It will need all the help it can get to keep from having damage to pump & injectors. You may need to do an injector job as well. JERRY-KS

Im with Jerry. I have a 7060 that had been sitting a long time and had a cylinder stuck. I lubed everything up real well as I re-assembled, and drained fuel and changed filters too. The tank ends up with a lot of crud in it from the fuel disintegrating all those years, so you will probably have quite a bit of trouble with that (I have!). Other than that, like the other said, it will make a mess when it first starts and dont head to the field with it right away! Good luck.

Thank you everyone,,this is great advice. I will do all you suggest, it won't be a working tractor much,,just odds and end stuff,,scopping snow and stuff,,need a loader yet for it tho :)

I would do what the guys said plus pre-lube the engine before you crank it over. This would ensure that you have fresh oil in all the right places before you fire it up. good luck, Mike
