I was wondering if anyone else had a sediment bowl like the picture below. It has a glass jar (Atlas#2 I think) that screws in the bottom.

I got one of these when I got my Potato B, and I just found another one for B#119. I've never seen one on a tractor at a show, and was wondering if they were fairly common. Does anyone else have one on their tractor?

Glenn, I have one of those glass jars i'll make you a deal on. Only it's one of the REALLY rare ones. It says "Ball perfect mason" on it. LOL!
Heard you talk of this "tater B" before, but never seen it. Post a pic please.

I didn't do it! It was a short, fat, tall, skinny guy that looked like me!

I have a used one I pulled off of an early B in a bone yard.  The male pipe threads are in sad shape on the inlet side and the 1/8th in  female pipe threads on the outlet side would need a helicoil.  Makes a nice ornament.

It is a Zenith sediment bowl. The glass jar is very small, maybe 2 1/2 inches high and an inch in diameter. Atlas is stamped on the bottom. I have never found a little jar like that either, I was looking for one, just in case I broke one of the ones I had.

The Potato B is not much to look at right now, it needs to have the 28 inch rims replicated yet. I have dimensions from Dale Haymaker's, but have not got that project underway yet,  I had put pictures of it on Tractorpics from when alan(nj) and I went and picked it up, but they have gone away....

These sediment bowls were rather popular on MM tractors in the early to mid 50's. I have 4 MM's with them on. You can get a new glass jar from Agco. I will look up the part number and post it on here.    Matt

How long did they use them Glenn?   I took one off of a 39 or 40 B.   Never thought much of it at the time.

alan,

It don't look much better today.... Thanks for the picture, I'll find mine one of these days. I have to get a hard drive switched out of a dead computer...

Chuck,

I do not know how long they used them. When I got the one on the Potato B, it was filled with black tar gas... I cleaned it all up and set it aside to use on the tractor, once I got to working on it. When I got B#119 (also not much to look at, even worse than the Potato B),
I thought it would be cool to put the tractor back to original, like Gary Arneson and Ken Aggen did with B#751. I have been scrounging parts from all over, and have almost everything I need to get started. I found this one when I was giving Ed Torbert all the money in my pocket one day. It was in a cigar box in his shed, he had put it there because he had not seen one like it, and was asking me if I knew if it was original. Now Ed is a good guy, and he finds all kinds of things with all the B's, C's and CA's he knocks in the head. He let's me know when he finds something I might want. The trade-off is that I always leave his place with empty pockets!  LOL.

It is good to hear that they are not all that rare, because maybe I can eventually get a few more of them for my early B's. Some parts are just dang hard to find....

I did get a carb that was the Zenith 8561A model used on the first non-Waukesha B's, it has the cast iron choke lever. That was off eBay, I got outbid the first time it was listed, but the high bidder put a "protective bid" in that was higher than he really wanted to pay. So, I got it on the re-listing auction. Ed had a nice set of tires and rims, although he was short a couple of the early wheel clamps. (I had some on the junk tractor that we got out on our great Ohio adventure.) He also had a good non-pressurized radiator and some misc stuff to take my last couple of bucks. LOL

I got a good Gemmer steering gear, a cherry early gas tank and an original spring/horsehair seat, that needs recovered.

Gary, Brett, Ken and I are still chasing an original early B padded seatback. So far, nothing. The first 12,000 B's could have had that seat back, doesn't somebody have one stashed in the back of a barn somewhere?  Sorry for rambling.....
