Which would you rather have D17 series IV or 175, i've had both and I'd like your opinions. Thanks again.

I like my 170, I used to have a Series 111 and my Grand Father's Series IV is still on the family farm.  They are all nice but my 170 has the best steering system.  Would probably come down to price, condition and hours to me.

I have both.  67 D17 IV gas and 77 175 diesel.  I do like the D17 better.

On the 175, you sit between the high fenders which traps a lot of engine noise for you to hear.  Also, servicing the 175 is a nightmare.  2 dozen bolts and a good hour to remove the hood and shields.

Aside from that, the tractors are very similar.

For collectability I'd vote for my D17 SIV Diesel hi-clearance....for making money I'll vote for my 170 and 175 Diesels.  I do think the 170/175 handles like a smaller tractor.

Both are nice but for real farm work the 175 is better because it has better gearing.  There is a half mile an hour difference between third low range and second high range on the 175 and on the D17 there is only one tenth difference.  So, basically you have two gears with the same speed.  Plus, second gear is much heavier on the 175.  I do believe one of the best tractors made is the D17 series IV, diesel with a turbo on it.

Like the front end on the 175.

Always liked the D17's -- but if could only have one, I'd pick the 175.
