I have no objection to having other colored tractors.  One, they probably mean a lot to you - your Father's, your Grandfather's etc. - and they have a special place in your thoughts.  Also, by restoring and keeping you are SAVING HISTORY! and for that I give you all my thinks.
In my mind tractor restoration is non denominational even though I love the Orange.
Good Luck!

You mean the Rules below ? This forum is for farm equipment. This is where this post goes.

Welcome to the new Unofficial Allis Forum.

We hope that you enjoy the new look and all of the new features this platform has to offer.  There are a few simple rules for everyone to follow that should help us all enjoy the forum even more.

  1. When posting, write as if you were face-to-face. Would you be willing to say what you are posting if you were standing within reach of the others taking part in the discussion?
  2. Please post in the correct forum and do not cross post.  We have setup several different forums to allow a great deal of latitude in your discussions.  Political and Union posts will be either deleted or moved to the political forum.
  3. If you have any doubt that the language you are using is acceptable, it probably isn't.  Foul language, dirty jokes, and the like are not welcome.  We frequently have young visitors, and while they may hear it at school it is not welcome here.
  4. The moderator's word is final.  This forum is moderated by myself and a very small group of trusted associates.  We keep in contact with each other to maintain consistency and insure a positive community environment for everyone.  Please respect our efforts and remember that you are here as a guest.
That should just about cover it.  As I have said many times before, this forum works because of the great people that choose to spend some of their time here.  We appreciate everyone that shares our fondness of the Allis-Chalmers brand and the old fashioned values that made America great.

Thank You,
Darin Stratton

51 MD.  I was the dumbest & luckiest guy at the sale, it wouldn't run, everybody but me knew they were notorious for having cracked heads and expected as much on this one.  I ended up replacing the gear on the distrubutor with one from a WD45 and its run ever  since.  Bought it in January 08,finally  got it started in March.

I'll bet most of us have one or two off colored tractors sitting around the farm.
I have two John Deere's one 4020 LPG and a 400 backhoe, use the 400 all the time the old 4020 just sits and weights for the power to go out it's the biggest tractor I have so its the stand by generator runner. I did put the 4020 in the barn after it sat outside for three years, It looks out of place sitting by all the Allis stuff in there. lol

Because everyone knows I am an avid Allis guy at work, a wise guy decided to put this on the back of my old truck one day. Other than a Massey Harris 81 tractor, I guess this is as off colored as I get!

Here is one of our "other" tractors.  It's a 91 Ford 6610 II with dual power and 8x2 crash box behind it.  I think the ford 10 series tractors are about as tough and easy to work on as they get for a more modern tractor (still made into the 2000s).  Not much there for creature comforts, but they get the job done.  This was a little before 2am in our farm shop after finishing replacing a throwout bearing and putting it back together by myself (not an easy job to do alone...).

Never saw a green White before.  I said that out loud while looking at the photo, wife heard me and came over for a look and asked, "OK, I'll bite, what color are they supposed to be?"  When I told her they were silver, she just rolled her eyes and said, "but of course," and walked off.

Someone needed to say it. AGCO could take a note or two from what White and AC did rather than going off in the opposite direction.

Now about those green whites. I have a favorite one called the Spirit of Oliver. It was dedicated to the Oliver Corporation by White. Again, AGCO should have taken some notes here.

I'm going to have to get some pics of my off colored tractors and put them on here.

Eldon, there is a guy who takes a restored Blue G to the Renfro Valley show. He has all the original manuals and papers for it. But he acted like the Blue G was a lot better than the AC G. I think the number left in existence tells that story.

Here is our late 1936 WK-40 that my dad and I own jointly.  My grandpa purchased this tractor in the early 1960's to use on our 52 inch circular mill.  It performed that duty very well until it was retired in the late 1970's when we moved to a Chevy 307 power unit.  It mostly sees light duty playtime nowadays, but I would like to put it back on a sawmill sometime.  You could hear the bark of the old 40 for miles when under load!

I took a picture of the 40 and my Model U side-by-side to show the size difference.  A fairer match would be a Model A, but the scrappy U will hold his own, LOL.

I like tractors of all colors! there is no need to discriminate against any! I worked at a White dealer when the American series 60/80's came out. What a great little tractor! 4b cummins, and oliver drivetrain with a toggle switch for the over/under shift. I never have seen one in the optional colors, we did sell a couple with cabs. I also like the spirit of oliver. Is it a 185? Have the toy, just never saw a real one. Thanks for sharing! Ed.

This is a strange place to ask this question, but where did the Spirit of Oliver tractor end up? Did it go to work on a farm or is it in a museum someplace? Pretty unique marketing gimmick, right up there with the flat black painted Gleaner.  My bosses had a few of the White "American" tractors on their lot when I worked at the dealership, but big tractors were better sellers for them. I thought they were kinda neat, too. We had a new 4-270 on the lot for a while that was a thrill to drive, almost as good as a 4W305-but not quite.

I'm going to have to get some pics of my off colored tractors and put them on here.
