I think the 80's were the best time period as far as the best tractors out there.  Most of the majors were still around and putting out good looking equipment.  Some of the best looking tractors were from this era.  eg. AC 8000's, IH 5088,s.
What say you?

I think the 60's and 70's were the best such as the 1206,6030 or D21 but the 8000 series were nice.

As an Allis dealer in the 60's and 70's and a district rep for Allis-Chalmers in 80 and 81 , I would agree that AC was producing some of their best tractors  with the 100 series, especially the 190 XT s  and the introduction of the 7000 series. It was a great time to be an Allis-Chalmers dealer. I have some good memories.

Richmar , could you share some stories bout being an AC dealer and working with ALLIS ? I bet that was a great time to be a dealer , introducing new stuff  espacially the One Hundred series tractors ; around here the ONE EIGHTY and the XT diesel was really popular , then the 7 thousand series were good to ; but farming was good then and the manufacture were looking to out do the other ; Please tell some !!!

I think the 80's was the pinnacle of tractor design for Allis-Chalmers and IH simply because it was the ultimte evolution of their tractor engineering before they went bankrupt. As for the companies that are still around today, they raise the bar every time they come out with a new model. As far as style goes, everyone will have their own personal preferrance. Personally I like the 6000 and 8000 styling.

It's a matter of personal taste.  From a purely style standpoint, the way they "looked", I always thought the 7000 series AC and the D21 were the prettiest tractors ever produced.  Next in line is the 86 series IH, 8000 series AC and 88 series IH.  Case had some nice enough tractors, but not a lot of "style", though they weren't ugly.
Ford body and cab style just didn't do much one way or the other for me.
Deere has always made the ugliest tractors though, just from a style standpoint.
Just my personal opinions though.

Couple ways to look at that question. As far as advancements, right now is the pinnacle and tomorrow will be the new pinnacle. I can look at it as the pinnacle for Allis and then that would have been 1950's to me. That's when Allis showed how far ahead of the competition they really were with the WD and 45.

The 100 series had extremely good performace I believe but the next really big leap for Allis was the 70's with the 7000 series. 20 speed PD, quietest cab, best hydraulics and good durable machines. IH had good speed selection but not the quiet cab or more modern hydraulics and to me were not that durable. Deere had good durability, Poor speed selection but a pretty quiet cab. Ford lacked the cab. Massey didn't have the durability. White didn't do too badly. Not quite as quiet cab. Case wasn't all that reliable either. Those are my opinions.
