I've been seeing a few pictures here and there of D-21's where the front grill is tilted out from the bottom edge as opposed to normally being slanted in at the bottom. What is the reason for this?

Thats a good question that I have wondered, too. Also , some are painted, some are chrome and painted, and some are all chrome. Which goes on what series? Were there options?

The only D-21 that I've seen with the grille slanted out at the bottom was Gilbert Vust's equiped with the Levy hydraulic front wheel drive system. All D-21 grills had a cream painted screen. The vertical bars were chrome untill the near the end of production. High serial number D-21's have an all painted cream grill. I know A-C had a tough year financially in 1968 and likely were looking to trim costs. When I restored my D-21, I chromed the screen as well and like it better.

The screen was in good shape on my 21 but the chrome pieces were all bent. I made a radius brake to form the new peices myself and then had them chromed. I was very pleased with the end result. The brake is for sale if anyone is interested. Eric NY

Thanks, building the brake took quite a bit of time. Forming the pieces was pretty easy. Eric NY

What are you asking for the radius brake?

Eric / Calvin

Who did you use to chrome your grille pieces.  Was it someone in the United States or Canada?  Calvin probably know where I'm going with this.

Don. Three gusess and the first two don't count. You are the right guy to buy the die.
I had my D-21 grill chromed at Cambridge Chrome in Cambridge On. They specialize in classic automotive chrome. They are the best of the best. I went crazy when I was this far and chromed the screen as well. The logo on the D-21 is from a lawn tractor. The D-19 grill is not mine but is one that I picked up from you at the GOTO in Portland.

I think the emblem is from a 200 series yellow lawn tractor. I bought at a swap meet but have seen it on the 200 series. The square plate had to be taken off the screen to have it chromed and I thought the emblem would look good. It's pot metal or something light.

Would appreciate any leads for locating stock sheets for the D 21 grill.  Looks like 16 Ga, .5" opening, .3" width.  Our machine shop ordered a 4' x 6' sheet of Lancet from McNichols Co, not correct stock.  Not sure what mesh is called, expanded metal, etc? Can send pictures of existing grill.

I’m looking for the mesh portion(expanded metal/screen) for a D-21 grille. If anyone has one they’d like to part with or if anyone has ideas on where to get one, I appreciate any info. - 919-273-6643.
