Have a old cypress? boat with two holes in the bottom. Anyone have any experience with a repair ? Guess I should use cypress if that's what it is? Maybe I can just slap some flex seal stuff on it? Yeah right Thanks |

depending on the size of the hole and location.. If it dont show, fill with fiberglass... ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

| Probably had this boat 30 years, but I think someone had put a skin of fiberglass on it that did no good. Pretty sure it has 2 holes in it big enough to put your fist through? Haven't looked at it in years. Need to put it in my shop and check it out. Thanks |

 Come on you need to do it right. .....what are you thinking.....................you need to staple some window screen on them then the flex seal. I have never had a boat, but have got lots of years use out of leaky water troughs. Keeping water in not so different than keeping water out. Also no prize for looking good. A patch of what ever you think. In my case steel washers a good coat the Henery Tar roof patch. then another washer on the other side. Suck up with a bolt. So in your case wood, with lots of flex seal (? or what ever) and wood on top some screws. But as I say very crud, you know the farmer get er DONE. I know not very helpful. But hopefully it gets you thinking, of possibilities. |

Hey AC,,,,repairing fiber glass is really not very hard to do,,,unless you got holes bigger than a good sized ice chest like you use for keeping your beer cold,,,,!! Even then,,,you just got to buy bigger pieces of fiberglass cloth and more mix,,,,,Give it a try,,,!! |

Seriously AC,,,my only issue with doing fiberglass repairs has been that I am kinda allergic to the fiberglass itself,,,,I use a heavy long sleeve shirt with gloves and a respirator and pick a low wind day to do the work. Give it a whirl,,,

I know a guy that had an old family wood boat (I don't know what kind of wood) that had a hole in it. He took a hole saw and drilled it out. He made a round wood plug that fit tightly in the hole. I believe he used some sort of epoxy after he had the plug in. If I remember correctly, he used the same kind of wood (maybe mahogany?) that the boat was made from.

WF has the right idea ! I'll add.... take out a bit more than the 'hole', so you have goo wood. Taper both the hole and the 'bung' for a good but slighlty loose fit Be 100% sure the hull is DRY Mix the 50/50 ratio epoxy really really well Allow to cure for two days ------------- 3 D-14s,A-C forklift, B-112 Kubota BX23S lil' TOOT( The Other Orange Tractor) Never burn your bridges, unless you can walk on water |

When using epoxy, remember there are different formulas for different applications. For deep cracks, there is 1, for shallow, there is another. go to totalboat epoxy for explanations... ------------- Source: Babylon Bee. Sponsored by BRAWNDO, its got what you need! |
